This newest offering from Bruichladdich, distilled from 55% Islay rye and 45% Islay malted barley before ageing in a mix of first fill bourbon barrels and first fill Virgin American Oak casks, is collaboration between the distiller and the farmers of Islay. The rye, from the 2017 rye harvest, is sourced from small plots around the island. Aromas of cracked pepper, grated ginger, and baking spice give way to a palate that’s juicy, with notes of melon, apricot, pear, and fresh herbs. Sip neat while mulling great turnaround tales.
