Utiel-Requena, just inland from Valencia, has been a DO since 1932 and is home to Spain’s oldest Bobal vines. Vera de Estenas, one of the torchbearers of the grape and among the region’s most traditional producers, farms century-old bush-trained vineyards on calcareous clay to craft a red bursting with dark plum, blackberry, wild herbs, spice, and an earthy, lifted freshness.
