The Carmignano Riserva by Piaggia is a Tuscan red wine of the highest quality. The Carmignano Riserva is a wine that can age for at least 10-15 years. Born from the union of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, from a fermentation with indigenous yeasts for 18 days and after aging for at least 18 months in French oak barrels, and undergoing malolactic conversion. Aging gives it an impenetrable character, very consistent, with elegant hints of tobacco, chocolate and spice.
The 2020 Carmignano Riserva Uva dei Colombi takes no prisoners, with a bouquet that boasts its new addition of Cabernet Franc: peppery florals and herbs, cedar shavings, cloves and dried strawberries form a truly seductive aromatic profile. This is a pure pleasure on the palate, velvety yet cool-toned with fresh acidity and polished wild berry fruits. Racy acidity keeps the energy remarkably high as the 2020 finishes structured and long, leaving hints of violet pastille and citrus-kissed blackberries to linger so long. Despite the 2020's youthful state, I simply can't help but want to return to this glass for more.
This has mellowed nicely, with black currant, black cherry, violet, vanilla, cedar and earth flavors. Shows finesse and intensity, along with excellent balance and a lingering aftertaste that echoes the fruit and oak spice, picking up a hint of wild herbs too. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2025 through 2040. 3,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.
