The sole grower in this tiny subsect of the Valle d’Aosta who does not sell his grapes to the local coop, Danilo Thomain farms a single hectare of Petit Rouge surrounded by a dramatic alpine landscape with the peaks of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc on the horizon. The vineyards of Enfer d’Arvier (Hell of Arvier) sits in a amphitheater carved from the mountainside with high altitudes and lots of sun exposure. Medium-bodied with a fruit forward, tart profile reminiscent of Gamay but with a distinctly rustic edge of alpine scrub.
