When Passopisciaro founder Andrea Franchetti visited Sicily in 2000, his keen eye picked out abandoned vineyards on the northern side of Mount Etna with the unique characteristics of high-elevation terraces of highly varied black, lava soils. Light ruby in color, this is a smoky wine with lush berry fruit and a touch of spice -- you can really tell the grapes were grown on a volcano! It's lean and mineral-driven, with lingering light fruit. A very cool wine to experience.
