A blend of 0.3 hectares from Mâconnais and 0.5 hectares from Ladoix where the vines range from 30-70 years old. The grapes from the Mâconnais are picked a week before the Ladoix and are put in tank, after which the grapes from Ladoix are picked and are layered in between the already-fermenting Maconnais grapes in a separate 55 HL tank. 100% whole-cluster, 2-week ambient yeast fermentation and carbonic maceration in tank, minimal extraction by wetting the cap with buckets and 2-3 foot treads near the end of fermentation, aged for 10-12 months in used 228 and/or 350 L barrels, blended in tank for 1 month.
For this humble appellation, this is a very impressive wine that you could mistake for a Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru. Stacks of forest berry and wet earth character plus plush tannins that have been beautifully crafted. The touch of whole-cluster freshness accentuates the excellent energy in the long, expressive finish.
