Released earlier this year, the 2014 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Auslese trocken R opens with a clear, fine, fresh and pure yet deep, intense and elegant bouquet with honey, brioche and floral notes as well as stony notes pairing with the ripe yet fresh fruit aromas. It is silky textured, perfectly round and charming on the palate, with beautiful oregano notes and ripe, very elegant and transparent fruit that is intertwined with vital, stimulating salinity and mineral freshness. This is a fantastic Saumagen Auslese R with a long, vivacious and so delicate yet vibrating and tensioned finish. This wine is perfect to drink today but will keep this shape for years. This is a classic because it’s bright, clear and fresh, very mineral and neither too powerful nor too rich. I didn’t know how beautiful 2014 be!
