Joe Swick is a 5th generation Oregonian, born and raised in Portland. After working at different wineries all over the world Joe returned to Oregon in 2013 to start Swick Wines in the Willamette Valley. He works only with sustainable or organically farmed vineyards that are not irrigated, from cooler climate locations. Many of the wines have zero sulfur added, a direction Joe is excited to continue pursuing. The two vineyards used for Zuul are hand harvested on the same day and fermented separately with the grapes destemmed. The wine is foot tread and macerated on the skins for about 30 days in 228 liter used wooden barrels before pressing. The wine spends about 6 months in elevage and is bottled with a small addition of sulfur. Only Zuul is redolent of lychee, potpourri, roses, peach, stone fruit and orange blossom.
Aromatic, dry wine made from two pink-berried grape varieties given prolonged skin contact. Call it orange, ramato or light red but it is delicious no matter what it's referred to as. Great notes of lychee, rose petals, blood oranges and peaches. Bone-dry and highly aromatic, one of our favorite styles of wines. 50% Pinot Gris sourced from Oregon and 50% Gewürztraminer grown in Washington. All the grapes are given skin contact for 30 days. Organic farming in the vineyards, all native yeast fermentation and bottled without filtering or fining as a naturally cloudy wine. No sulfites added except a tiny dose at bottling.
