This expressive Petite Sirah is not the typical in-your-face fruit bomb. Patrick Cappiello hit a home run with this vintage and the wine impressed our team with its graceful peppered berry flavors and subtle complexity. Deep and fleshy, yet utterly drinkable.
Monte Rio Cellars Description
Petite Sirah from two sites in Lodi AVA - Reese and Calvinco Vineyard. The vines range in age from 20-40 years, both vineyards are farmed organically and all fruit is hand harvested. 100% whole cluster, carbonic maceration in stainless steel before being pressed into both stainless steel and concrete to complete fermentation. All native yeasts. Matured for 10 months in neutral oak. 13% abv.

The 2021 Petite Sirah is laced with inky blue/purplish fruit, hard candy, mint, sage and white flowers. Whole clusters add quite a bit of nuance to this exuberant, racy Lodi Petite. All the elements are so well balanced. This is just gorgeous. This tastes more like Syrah than Petite.
