Marsannay is the northernmost appellation of the Côte d’Or, nestled between Dijon and Fixin. It’s unique in Burgundy for producing all colored wines at the village-level (red, white, and rosé wines). Vines have grown here since at least the 7th century. Domaine Bart, a leading producer in Marsannay, was founded in the 1980s from vineyards inherited from the historic Clair-Dau estate. The Bart family has deep local roots, going back six generations. Current winemaker Martin Bart’s grandfather, part of the Clair family, made history by producing the first Marsannay Rosé in 1919. About 90% of Domaine Bart’s production is red, with the rest divided between white and rosé. They farm organically (though not certified), with vines averaging 40 years old—some, like Clos de Bèze, Bonnes Mares, and Finottes, planted in 1922. Their winemaking style is consistent, focused on expressing the distinct character of each site. Led by our friend Cameron Mills from Bowler Wine, we'll taste five wines: one white, one rosé, and three reds—including three wines that we will not put on the shelves until after class participants get to try and purchase them. Limited to 12 seats—Reserve yours now! Tickets are available for $25 per person (refundable with the purchase of any featured wine). |
